Sixteen surveillance cameras aimed at detecting vehicles jumping red lights will be introduced at five intersections in Madinat Zayed, in the Western Region, as of Sunday.

The new system complements those on Abu Dhabi Island to detect traffic breaches such as jumping red lights and speeding.

Other common breaches include misusing lanes and vehicles stopping on pedestrian crossings, said Brig Eng Hussein Al Harthi, head of the traffic and patrols directorate at Abu Dhabi Police.
