A series of gold smuggling attempts on India-bound flights have put the spotlight on the often uncomfortable lengths some people will go to for financial gain.

At least two men were arrested this month when police in Kerala found they had stashed as much as a kilogram of gold inside themselves.

Both men were on flights from Dubai and attempting to avoid India's 18 per cent tax on gold and other luxuries, and the fact gold is about 20 per cent cheaper in Dubai.

Highly trained customs officers and cameras that monitor how people walk and act make smuggling ever more difficult.
