DUBAI // A tourist who forged Emirates Airline employee identification cards in Thailand to gain access to the company’s discounts in restaurants and hotels in Dubai was jailed for three months at Dubai Criminal Court.
Frenchman M M forged three IDs in January and then paid US$25 (Dh92) to put his photo on the IDs so he could use them during his stay in Dubai.
In February, the 26-year-old went to visit a friend at an Emirates residential area on Sheikh Zayed Road and showed the fake ID to a security guard. The guard was suspicious and reported the incident to his supervisor, before reporting it to police.
“I forged the IDs to be able to get discounts at hotels and restaurants and other facilities affiliated with the airline,” M M told prosecutors.
CCTV footage showed the Frenchman entering the residential area using the fake ID.
In court, he entered a not guilty plea to the charge of forgery but pleaded guilty to using forged documents.
He was sentenced to three months in prison and will be deported after completing his sentence.
