Three-year-old girl who died falling from balcony is named

AJMAN // A girl who died on Monday when she fell four floors from the balcony of her home has been named as Joudi Ameen from Egypt.

Initial information suggested that she was 10 years old, but she was, in fact, only three. She fell from her apartment in Al Nuaimia, Ajman, after seeing her mother down below.

Doctors at Sheikh Khalifa Hospital tried in vain to save her life.

Dr Wajih Al Sisi, consultant and head of the orthopaedic department at Sheikh Khalifa Hospital, said: “She was first taken to the GMC Hospital, which is the nearest hospital to her residential area, and they resuscitated her and then called the specialist and brain consultant at Khalifa Hospital to transfer her from there and she came by National Ambulance with an anaesthetist.”

The girl’s heart stopped beating twice, Dr Al Sisi said, first at GMC Hospital and then in the ambulance en route to Khalifa Hospital.

“Her heart had stopped beating less than 15 minutes before her arrival at the hospital. We tried to resuscitate her, but she died because she had a fracture in the bottom of the skull and brain laceration,” Dr Al Sisi said.

Police are investigating the death. A witness on Tuesday told of how the girl’s mother was screaming and in tears at the hospital when she learnt of her daughter’s death.
