Three people were seriously injured after a lorry smashed into a barrier in Ras Al Khaimah. The lorry driver and two passengers were taken to hospital for treatment following the crash on Emirates Road at about 1.15pm on Saturday. Captain Hamad Al Shehhi, from RAK Police, said that initial investigations revealed the vehicle had swerved off the road and collided with a metal barrier dividing the highway. “The 43-year-old truck driver and two other passengers, aged 36 and 28, all suffered severe injuries due to the collision and were transferred to the hospital for treatment,” said Cap Al Shehhi. Col Ahmad Al Naqbi, acting director general of RAK Police's central operations, said it was believed that the driver was distracted at the time of the crash. He urged motorists to be fully focused on the road at all times. “A lack of attention on the road can lead to deadly accidents that can cause injuries and fatalities among road users,” said Col Al Naqbi. More than 1,000 motorists were prosecuted for being distracted behind the wheel in Ras Al Khaimah last year.
