ABU DHABI // Hijri new year will be on Wednesday, October 14, and Thursday will be a holiday for public sector workers, it was announced on Sunday.
Government rules state “any public holiday can be moved to the beginning or to the end of a week if it falls between two working days”.
Therefore, it was decided that the Hijri New Year 1437 public holiday will be moved to Thursday. Official working hours resume on Sunday, October 18.
The private sector will receive the same holiday after Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour, issued a circular announcing Thursday, October 15, will be a paid public holiday for those employed with private sector entities, organisations and companies in the UAE.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Minister conveyed its sincere congratulations and best wishes to President Sheikh Khalifa and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, and their brothers the Rulers of the UAE on the occasion.
