DUBAI // A teenager who tried to jump from the first floor of Dubai Mall is to be charged with disturbing the peace.
Prosecutors believe that the teenager was showing off and playing with his friends and not attempting suicide as was first thought.
The Dubai Juvenile Prosecution said he would now “face the consequences of his reckless and irresponsible behaviour”. The teenager is an Emirati older than 16.
“Police received a report of a suicide attempt after the defendant’s picture standing on the marble edge of the first floor in Dubai Mall was circulated on social media,” said Essah Sabt, chief juveniles prosecutor.
However, under interrogation the teenager said he was not trying to kill himself.
