DUBAI // Two university students confessed to smoking hashish when they appeared at the Dubai Criminal Court.
Canadian A A, 19, and Iraqi Y A, 21, confessed to a charge of consuming hashish. However, A A denied an additional charge of possessing 0.0955 grams of Ethylone, a controlled mind altering substance.
“I consumed but 20 days before I came to the UAE, I was in Iraq at that time,” A Y told judges.
His lawyer pleaded to judges to grant her client bail since he is a senior university student and is due to graduate this year. “It’s his last year your honour, the court can set any terms and guarantees to his bail,” said the lawyer.
A A and Y A were arrested on December 29 last year in Al Barsha after police received a tip off that the two were using drugs.
The next hearing will be on March 20.
