DUBAI // A 19-year-old conned 300 people out of Dh8,000 after posting pictures of women on Twitter and offering men the chance to have sex with them.
The Moroccan student, who confessed to a charge of inciting sin when he appeared at Dubai Criminal Court, was paid in phone credit. He was jailed for three months and will be deported after serving his prison term.
In July this year, and prior to that date, the defendant, who has almost 9,000 followers on Twitter, posted the images to lure men who wanted to have sex with the women pictured.
Police showed the court a list of money transfers he received from customers as well as details of the words and phrases used to promote sin and sex services.
The student, who lives in Muhaisnah 4, told prosecutors he pretended to be a pimp and asked customers to send him phone credit as payment but didn’t “actually have any prostitutes or anything”.
He said more than 600 people contacted him after he posted the images but only 300 sent him credit, worth Dh8,000.
He was arrested on August 8. It was not stated how he was arrested.
