Student denies attempted rape of boy, Dubai court told

DUBAI// A student denied attempting to rape an 11-year-old boy after forcing him into a house in Hatta and chaining him up.

The Dubai Criminal Court heard that Emirati A M, 20, along with juveniles Y S, 11, and R K, 12, both Emiratis, attacked their compatriot Z K as he was walking alone and forced him into a house on July 20 this year.

The victim told prosecutors that he was playing with his phone when he was attacked.

“They dragged me and forced me into a house then used a chain to restrain me. They left me chained up for nearly two hours as they played on their PlayStation after which A M arrived and told me he wanted to have sex with me,” said Z K.

The boy refused and started crying. “Then they unchained me and let me go,” Z K said in records.

The victim’s father told prosecutors he was contacted by Hatta police at around 11.45am and told his son had been taken to hospital.

“I headed there immediately and learnt that my son was going to be sexually assaulted. I went to the police station and lodged an official complaint,” said S K, 45.

It was not clear in records who referred the boy to hospital. The circumstances of A M, Y S and R K’s arrest were also not mentioned in court documents.

A M denied the accusation and told prosecutors he was surprised to see the victim in his house after Y S and R K had chained him up.

However, Y S and R K said they came to A M’s house and found him in his bedroom with Z K.

In court A M denied a charge of attempted rape. Y S and R K have been referred to Dubai Juvenile Court to face an attempted rape charge.

The next hearing at the criminal court will be on November 8.

Hili 2: Unesco World Heritage site

The site is part of the Hili archaeological park in Al Ain. Excavations there have proved the existence of the earliest known agricultural communities in modern-day UAE. Some date to the Bronze Age but Hili 2 is an Iron Age site. The Iron Age witnessed the development of the falaj, a network of channels that funnelled water from natural springs in the area. Wells allowed settlements to be established, but falaj meant they could grow and thrive. Unesco, the UN's cultural body, awarded Al Ain's sites - including Hili 2 - world heritage status in 2011. Now the most recent dig at the site has revealed even more about the skilled people that lived and worked there.
