DUBAI // Street food peddlers are to be fined Dh2,000 and have their stock confiscated.
The crackdown is part of Dubai Municipality's efforts to clean up streets and residential areas.
"Street peddlers who are selling vegetables and other items of food products are not at all allowed in the streets or residential areas," said the municipality's Khalid Suletin.
"They have to pay a fine and their commodities, including vehicles used for business, would be confiscated."
Mr Suletin said the municipality was clamping down to ensure the enforcement of local orders and to protect consumers from risk.
"We are committed to maintaining the aesthetic beauty of the city," he said. "We don't want tourists in the city to get into trouble because of the nuisance of street sellers."
Mr Suletin warned anyone preparing food in open areas, outside labour camps or any public space, that they faced legal action.
"They may be fined up to Dh1,000," he said.
The public has also been urged by the municipality to report any illegal activities.

Buy farm-fresh food
The UAE is stepping up its game when it comes to platforms for local farms to show off and sell their produce.
In Dubai, visit Emirati Farmers Souq at The Pointe every Saturday from 8am to 2pm, which has produce from Al Ammar Farm, Omar Al Katri Farm, Hikarivege Vegetables, Rashed Farms and Al Khaleej Honey Trading, among others.
In Sharjah, the Aljada residential community will launch a new outdoor farmers’ market every Friday starting this weekend. Manbat will be held from 3pm to 8pm, and will host 30 farmers, local home-grown entrepreneurs and food stalls from the teams behind Badia Farms; Emirates Hydroponics Farms; Modern Organic Farm; Revolution Real; Astraea Farms; and Al Khaleej Food.
In Abu Dhabi, order farm produce from Food Crowd, an online grocery platform that supplies fresh and organic ingredients directly from farms such as Emirates Bio Farm, TFC, Armela Farms and mother company Al Dahra.
