A man has been charged with murdering his brother-in-law after the victim identified his killer in his dying breath.
Police arrested the 30-year-old suspect, from Pakistan, as he tried to board a plane home from the UAE.
Lt Col Ahmad Saeed Al Nuaimi, of Ajman Police, described how the brutal attack was reported to officers last Saturday.
The victim was found collapsed and bleeding heavily in an alleyway with a knife still lodged in his chest.
But after being rushed to hospital he remained just aware enough to give details of his killer’s name to medics.
“He was still alive and was immediately taken to Al Qassimi hospital where he just said a first name of a person and then died,” said Lt Col Al Nuaimi.
“We found that only one person among the victim’s family and friends went by that name.
“We were able to track him down after we circulated an arrest warrant to all airports in the country.”
The suspect was arrested at Dubai International Airport as he tried to flee the Emirates, officers said.
On questioning, he admitted the murder and revealed he had flown to the UAE with the sole intention of killing his brother-in-law for divorcing his sister.
“He also told investigators that he had been keeping an eye on his victim’s movements so he could take him by surprise,” Lt Col Al Nuaimi said.
The case has been referred to criminal prosecutors for further investigation.
