ABU DHABI // The Julio Iglesias concert tonight was cancelled and rescheduled for tomorrow at the last minute because the singer’s equipment did not arrive on time.
Iglesias was due to perform at the Dubai World Trade Center’s Sheikh Rashid Hall at 10pm. Ticketers Time Out Dubai and Platinum List announced the postponement at 6pm, an hour before the doors for the concert were to open.
A statement was issued on the singer’s Facebook page after 7pm.
The Spanish crooner apologised to his fans, sponsors and the Dubai Government in a statement on his Facebook page.
“I love Dubai and was very much looking forward to sharing my show with you tonight,” Iglesias said in a statement. “I am deeply upset that my concert equipment did not leave as scheduled to arrive in Dubai on time. Had this have happened anywhere else in the world we would not have been able to reschedule the concert so quickly because in Dubai everything is possible.”
People with tickets for today’s show can instead use them for tomorrow’s concert. “Same time, same place,” said a spokesperson from the concert organisers, M4 Events. Full refunds will be available from ticket retailers.
Time Out Dubai tweeted that “Time Out Tickets customers will be contacted soon”.
The world renowned heart-throb singer and songwriter, who turns 70 this year, had his first single with the Eurovision song, Gwendolyne, 43 years ago.
His latest performances were in Armenia and at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Russia, earlier this month.

Sheikh Dhiyab bin Isa (ruled 1761-1793) Built Qasr Al Hosn as a watchtower to guard over the only freshwater well on Abu Dhabi island.
