DUBAI // Three transgender spa employees, working as male prostitutes, who were apprehended following an assault at the men’s spa where they worked, will each spend three years in jail.

The Thai residents, N Y, 22, S S, 22, and S B, 23 who were hired by Iraqi F N, 44, to work in his spa in Hor Al Anz, were convicted of working as male prostitutes and having sex with men for money.

They will be deported after serving their sentences. The trio denied charges when they appeared in Dubai Criminal Court in July.

F N was charged with running his spa as a brothel, which he denied. He was found guilty and sentenced to five years in jail, followed by deportation.

The incident came to light when Emirati soldier Y H, 23, visited the spa in April last year and had sex with N Y after which the two argued and he slapped N Y then pointed a knife at him.

Police received a report of a fight and when patrols arrived, it was discovered that the spa had been used to offer sexual services to men.

Y H was tracked down through his car number plate from CCTV footage at the spa.

The soldier was charged with having consensual paid sex with N Y. The court referred his case to the Court of Misdemeanours.
