DUBAI // A male customer was caught on a shop camera molesting other customers, one of whom reported the matter to managers, the Dubai Criminal Court heard on Sunday.

The defendant S D, a 29-year-old Sri Lankan, denied a charge of molestation despite the fact that police records say he confessed and apologised.

Records show that the defendant had been seen several times at the shop but on May 30, a male customer yelled at S D when he felt the other man’s body intimately close. He then turned to S D exposing himself.

The defendant managed to get out of the shop before the customer could identify him, but shop management identified the man. The next time he visited the shop, S D was restrained and shown security footage of him molesting male and female customers.

S S, a 22-year-old Indian and shop employee, testified that he had seen S D several times.

“But when a man complained, we checked the cameras and saw him unbuttoning his trousers, revealing his parts and touching people from behind without them feeling a thing,” he said. “He returned one week later to the shop and then we got him and called police. He confessed and asked for forgiveness.”

A verdict is expected later this month.
