Sheikh Sultan praises second Ramadan media majlis

SHARJAH // Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi has praised the second Ramadan media majlis for highlighting intellectual and cultural issues in the emirate and the region.

Sheikh Sultan, chairman of the Sharjah Media Centre, said the events were important in helping to bridge the gap between the public and government officials.

In a recent majlis session Mohammad Khalaf, director of Sharjah Radio, hosted Riyad Naasan Agha, the former Syrian minister of culture, and Hamdi Kandeel, a renowned Arab media personality, to discuss trends in the region's media, and its future and challenges.

"Today it's the internet dominating the media and we don't know what will be dominating tomorrow," said Mr Agha

"Only one thing we are sure of is the media is changing at a big speed and there are going to be new media innovations that would take the world by surprise."

He said it was important for everyone working in the media to keep up with changes "as the audience moved with these innovations".

Future sessions to be held during Ramadan will address topics including the media, culture, art and sport, and poetry recitals and important social discussions in the spirit of the holy month.

On Wednesday, the Minister of Social Affairs, Mariam Al Roumi, the Minister of Education, Humaid Al Qatami, and Dr Abdullah Al Suwaji, chairman of the Sharjah Educational Association, will attend the majlis.

Other sessions will feature celebrated Arab actors including Nour Al Shareef from Egypt, Jamal Slaiman from Syria, the Emirati actress Sameera Ahmad, Kuwaiti actors Khalid Al Abeed and Mohammad Al Mansour, and others.
