Terrorist acts that targeted an Egyptian church were rejected by all divine religions on the planet, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak said during a church visit yesterday in Abu Dhabi.
The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research offered his condolences to Rev Ishaq al Anba Bishoy, pastor of Abu Dhabi's Al Anba Antonio Cathedral Church, for the victims of Saturday's bomb attack in Alexandria.
He condemned the killings as terrorist acts repudiated by Islamic teachings of tolerance and by all other religions, according to the state news agency, WAM. Twenty-one people were killed and many were injured in the blast.
"The brutal act didn't only target the Egyptian Coptic Church, but also [was] against humanity at large," Sheikh Nahyan said.
The sheikh also offered condolences to the families of victims, and wished those injured in the attack a speedy recovery.
He called on Egyptians to stand in unity to overcome the ordeal, according to WAM. The UAE has condemned the New Year's Day attack and described it as a "despicable act that led to the killing and injuring of several innocent citizens of sisterly Egypt".
On September 10 last year, Sheikh Nahyan inaugurated the Egyptian Coptic Church in Al Ain.
