DUBAI // Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the release of 1,014 inmates of different nationalities before the start of Ramadan.
Essam Issa Humaidan, Attorney General of Dubai, said that the prisoners’ pardon would bring happiness to their families and allow them a fresh start in the community.
He said legal procedures at Dubai’s public prosecution to implement Sheikh Mohammed’s order were under way.
On Wednesday, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, ordered the release of 363 prisoners and paid off their debts.
The rulings follow the President Sheikh Khalifa's order to release 977 inmates on Tuesday.
Sheikh Khalifa said he would settle the financial obligations of the pardoned inmates.
The move allows prisoners the chance to start a new life and ease the suffering of their families, reported state news agency Wam.
