Sharjah Police question housemaid who gave birth to twins

The woman was referred to police after giving birth to twins in her employers' home. The employers were unaware the woman was pregnant.

SHARJAH // A Filipino maid found with newborn twins in her employers’ bathroom has been questioned by Sharjah police.

Police questioned the housemaid, who gave birth to the twins out of wedlock, at her employer’s house in Al Nouf area.

As soon as the medical team supervising the woman’s case approved her release from hospital, she was referred to Al Gharb Police station, and had both babies with her.

She faces charges of adultery, pregnancy out of wedlock and endangering the infants’ life.

A man suspected of being the father is being interrogated. He is Bangladeshi and works as a domestic helper in a neighbouring house.

Sharjah Police had received a report last Wednesday from the maid’s employers to say they found her with newborn twins in her bathroom.

They were in a state of shock because they were not aware she was pregnant. She had worked for them for nearly a year.
