SHARJAH // A man cut his mother’s throat with a kitchen knife and then lived with the body in the apartment they shared for 10 days before he was arrested, the Sharjah Criminal Court was told.

Emirati N L was arrested on June 7 last year after he attacked an Iranian supermarket worker with a knife in a shop in Palm Tower 1 in Mamzar at around 5pm.

When police arrived, N L did not have any ID on him and told officers he could get some from his flat in the same building.

The officer who accompanied him found the 50-year-old woman’s body in the bedroom. Her throat had been cut with a kitchen knife.

When questioned, N L said he and his mother shared a strong relation, he loved her and she loved him but he had ‘received an order from God to kill her for witchcraft’.

In court, N L confessed to a charge of premeditated murder. He has yet to undergo a medical examination to determine his mental health.

The trial continues.
