SHARJAH // A man was charged with killing his 15-year-old nephew and critically injuring the boy's parents on Sunday, police said. The attacks took place in a flat in the Sharjah Industrial Area, said Brig Musa al Naqbi, director of the Sharjah Police Criminal Investigation Department. Police said the man arrested admitted to the attacks on his sister and her family. Brig al Naqbi said police were called to the flat by neighbours who reported hearing a calamity.
According to a police account, the uncle first attacked the teenager, stabbing him in the heart. The parents intervened, and he stabbed them both several times. When police arrived, the man was trying to escape onto a balcony but was captured. CID officials arrived to find the boy's body lying on the ground in a pool of blood, and the killer trying to escape through the balcony of the first floor but the police managed to arrest him there.
The parents were transferred to Kuwait Hospital for treatment and were reported to be in critical condition on Monday. The case has been referred to Sharjah Public Prosecution. Ali al Zaabi, a prosecutor, ordered a postmortem on the teenager. A knife allegedly used in the attacks was recovered from the flat. ykakande@thenational.ae
