Sharjah introduces Wi-Fi enabled ‘smart bins’

As of Tuesday, some of Sharjah’s rubbish bins were given an upgrade and will now double up as Wi-Fi hotspots.

Bee’ah, Sharjah’s waste management company, has now committed to having several hundred of the bins, designed and manufactured by BigBelly, sent out across Sharjah and the UAE in prominent locations as early as the beginning of next year.

This will make Sharjah the first location in the Middle East to have smart-bin technology with Wi-Fi hotspots, in parallel with cities such as London and New York.
