Sharjah development: Dh110 million earmarked for new roads and schools

The money was allocated for the building and paving of internal roads, particularly in residential areas.

SHARJAH // The emirate's Ruler has allocated Dh110 million for new roads and schools.

The announcement was made by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qassimi, the Deputy Ruler and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council, during a council session.

Sheikh Abdullah said the Ruler of Sharjah, Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed, had allocated Dh100m for the building and paving of internal roads, particularly in residential areas.

Another Dh10m will be spent on the maintenance and building of schools.

"The roads projects will include paving several road networks in the Muweileh residential area," Sheikh Abdullah said.

The schools will offer better facilities for students in the emirate, said Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr Al Qassimi, the Director General of Sharjah's Directorate of Public Works, and the roads would improve the standard of living for people in Muweileh.

Sheikh Khalid urged the Executive Council to find a solution for the build up of deposits of sand and dust between the metal dividers than run the length of Maliha road causing problems for motorists.

The Government of Sharjah has launched a number of ambitious infrastructure development projects this year, with Dh1billion allocated in April for the expansion of main arterial roads, including Al Arouba street.

Last month, Dr Sheikh Sultan announced a Dh400m upgrade to roads and utilities in Khor Fakkan on the east coast.
