SHARJAH // Members of Sharjah Consultative Council, the emirate’s legislative body, started their new session last week by electing a speaker, deputy speaker and specialist members of its committees.
Abdul Rahman Al Hajri was elected speaker and Adnan Al Hammadi chosen as deputy speaker on Thursday.
The members then elected members of the eight council committees, including the legal and legislative committee; the financial, economic and industrial committee; the education, youth, cultural and media committee; the health and social services committee; the Islamic and Awqaf committee and the family committee. Each committee will have seven members.
“We have received a letter from the Sharjah Executive Council dated November 5 asking the consultative council to look into a local decree of 2013 aimed at establishing Al Qassimi University in Sharjah,” Mr Al Hajri said.
“The council is hereby entrusting the newly elected education, youth, cultural and media council to go and study the project and report back to the SCC.”
The SCC was formed in 1999 with the objective of encouraging citizens of the emirate to get involved in the decision-making process.
