Seven jailed for sharing classified information about UAE with Hizbollah



ABU DHABI // Two Lebanese Hizbollah operatives and an Emirati were sentenced to life in prison by the Federal Supreme Court for passing on classified information about the UAE to the militant group.

They were on trial with four others for handing over state secrets, including sensitive information about political, security and economic institutions.

Two other defendants, a 54-year-old Canadian/Egyptian woman who worked as a geology sketcher at an oil company, and an Emirati employee of the Abu Dhabi Traffic and ­Licensing Department, were sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The Canadian/Egyptian was found guilty of supplying energy related information to Hiz­bollah, while the Emirati was convicted of handing over a list of vehicle registrations.

A 49-year-old Iraqi and a 47-year-old Lebanese Hizbollah member were sentenced to 15 years in prison each. The Iraqi was found guilty of passing on to Hizbollah sensitive information from the Ministry of Interior. The Lebanese was found guilty of running the group and its activities in the UAE and handing out state secrets.

The non-Emiratis will be ­deported after serving their ­sentences.
