Reaching the ultimate spiritual state during worship is key to success in life, leading to charisma and the spread of goodwill, according to today's sermon. Imams will address the Islamic concept of khushoo - when a person is completely concentrating and humble before God while praying or reading the Quran. "What is meant by khushoo while reading Quran is that the person should get influenced by what he is reading, and learning from its morals, and responding to its orders, and God praised those who get influenced by the Quran, as he said in his holy book: 'Their flesh and their hearts soften to Allah's reminder [the Quran].' Such is Allah's guidance," the sermon will say.
To achieve khushoo while praying, one has to contemplate the verses he is reading to become closer with God, worshippers will be told. "Allah did not connect success in life with prayer only. He connected it with khushoo in prayer as the Quran says: 'Successful indeed are the believers who are humble in their prayers'," said Dr Khaled AbdelAlim, an Islamic preacher who has his own Islamic show on Ajman TV.
Working hard and being successful in life while seeking God's satisfaction is part of Islam's teachings, he said. Moreover, when people achieve khushoo, they will always feel God's presence and that will prevent them from committing sins. "Such a person would not steal other people's money, or backstab anyone, or gossip about people behind their back, or cheat or cause harm to anybody, because he is keen on avoiding what God forbids," he added.
Khushoo can also reflect on a person's appearance. "For example, you find a young man who has khushoo to be charismatic with a prestigious look and presence, not like some guys who walk in the street whistling and winking," he said. @Email:hdajani@thenational.ae
