ABU DHABI // The writer of a script for a documentary about labourers in Dubai trying to qualify for a singing championship has won an award. Mahmoud Kaabour, a filmmaker and founder of Veritas Films, won the Dh50,000 (US$13,000) prize for best script at the Anasy Documentary Awards in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. Kaabour's upcoming project will follow a similar singing competition called Camp ka Champ (The Champ of the Camp).
Veritas Films described the competition as "an X Factor-like singing competition that takes place in many of Dubai's labour camps". The cash will be used to film the 2011 competition, said Kaabour, who will follow the lives of five workers. "We will follow it from the very beginning - from their qualifications, rehearsing on their jobs, and how music plays a driving force in their life," he said.
