Dubai expects to welcome thousands of visitors to the region’s largest consumer technology and electronics show in December.

Gitex 2020 will be held in the 'new normal', being one of the first major events in the emirate that people will be able to attend physically.

The exhibition will run from December 6 to 9 at the World Trade Centre amid strict precautionary measures.

Organisers of the event have made arrangements to keep exhibitors and visitors safe.

Regular sterilisation programmes, reducing the venue's capacity to avoid congestion, thermal cameras at entry points, the mandatory use of face masks, and contactless payments are some of the measures that will be adopted during the event.

Over-the-counter registration will not be possible this time. Visitors and participants can register and buy tickets online that can help authorities if contact tracing is required.

Visitors will be given a barcode in advance, to enter the paper-free event.

Dubai has slowly resumed all activities, such as exhibitions and conferences.

The emirate held its first business conference in July, nearly four months after all events were cancelled in March to control the spread of the coronavirus.

Cityscape Dubai 2020 will also take place from November 16 to 17.

But the big exhibition stands will be replaced by smaller pods to support developers and service providers.

Popular multicultural Dubai tourist attraction, Global Village, will open on October 25 and will run for 25 weeks, concluding in April 2021.
