Abu Dhabi Science Festival hopes to attract young scientists

Organisers of the Abu Dhabi Science Festival are expanding the event in the hope of sparking children's interest.

DUBAI // Children can play as archeologists or forensic detectives as part of this year's third Abu Dhabi Science Festival.

Organisers are expanding the event in the hope of sparking children's interest, and bosses at Abu Dhabi Technology Development Committee hope the turnout will be even higher than last year's 120,000.

"The TDC is committed to promoting the importance of science and technology to our children through a wide-ranging programme of informal science education initiatives," said Ahmed Saeed Al Calily, director general of the organisation.

"This year, we are extremely excited to be hosting the Abu Dhabi Science Festival at the du Forum on Yas Island and we have larger capacities than last year, both in the Forum and on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

"Moreover, we will be reaching out to more of our nation's youth, with the festival expansion to the Northern Emirates, building on the community's interest we have seen in the past."

The event will have activities in Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Al Gharbia and Fujairah.

Arrangements have been made for 25,000 students to visit Yas Island and the Corniche for the festival, which will take place from November 14 to 23. Last year, 20,000 students came to the event.
