It could be any person enjoying an early morning cycle in the UAE mountains. But a closer look reveals it is none other than Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. A video of Sheikh Saud enjoying a morning bike ride close to the UAE's highest point on Sunday has been posted to social media. He is wearing a protective helmet and a sports outfit while cycling up the mountain. The footage was posted by Ras Al Khaimah Government Media Office, which said that cycling at Jebel Jais is part of Sheikh Saud’s morning routine. “[In the] very early morning, His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, on his daily mountain ride at his beloved Jebel Jais," it said. Jebel Jais is 1,934 metres tall and part of the Hajar mountain range. It is a popular sport for cyclists and runners, and the mountain has become an integral part of Ras Al Khaimah's tourism strategy. It hosts the world's longest zipline, an adventure park, mountain climbing routes and a survival academy by the TV personality Bear Grylls will open later this year. It has been an astonishing transformation considering there was not even a road to the top a few years ago. Meanwhile, Sheikh Saud is not the only Ruler to enjoy cycling. Last month, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, cycled around the city with friends and aides.
