DUBAI // Four men who posed as police officers, slapped a woman, and ripped off her necklace, then assaulted and restrained her brother before robbing their house have been jailed for three years each.
Pakistanis W S, 26, A A, 30, S K, 30, and Indian J T, 23, were convicted at Dubai Criminal Court of impersonating CID officers, robbery, assault and trespassing.
W S remains at large while the other three were present in court last December and denied all the charges against them.
At 10.30pm on January 5 last year the four men knocked on the door of Pakistani salesman A S, in Al Muraqqabat, Deira, where he lives with his sister.
“As I opened the door, I received a slap on my face and four men barged their way into the flat then one of them grabbed a chain from my neck before they tied my hands with a plastic rope,” said the 30-year-old sister.
Her brother testified that he was then attacked by the men, who claimed that they were from the Dubai Police.
“They showed me some identification cards then tied my hands and legs before they started kicking me on the face and body,” said he said.
The victim said the gang stole Dh15,000 in cash and three mobile phones before they ran away.
One of them, he said, was caught by neighbours who had responded to his sister’s screams for help.
Police showed pictures of the men, and their criminal records for other similar crimes, and the victims were able to identify two of them.
All three caught will be deported once they complete their jail terms.
