Restaurant workers injured in Sharjah kitchen explosion

SHARJAH // Three restaurant employees were seriously injured in an explosion in a restaurant that was thought to have been caused by a rat gnawing through a gas pipe.

The Civil Defence Department received a call after reports of a loud explosion at a popular restaurant in Khor Fakkan.

Al Ittihad, the sister newspaper of The National, reported that firefighters and paramedics arrived at the scene to find the premises on fire.

Investigations by prosecutors indicated signs of erosion on a pipe connected to a gas cylinder, which was likely to have been gnawed on by a rat.

This led to a leakage of gas into the kitchen, which was then unintentionally ignited.
