AJMAN // A residential complex of 10 towers has mice, insects and maintenance problems with management nowhere to be seen, tenants complained.

Residents of Ajman Pearl Towers, in Al Nuaimia, said the lifts regularly broke down and water leaks and safety problems were not addressed.

“I found four rats this year inside my flat,” said Salam Kareem, 31, an Indian sales and marketing director in B2 Tower. “They came from dirty empty flats next to mine. To whom do I have to complain? I said to the maintenance people who said they do not know.”

Wesam Sheikh Ibrahim, 28, a Jordanian business development manager, said the four lifts at B3 Tower were out of order for 12 hours a week ago.

“The lifts broke down because water leaked from pipes above them, entered the electrical boxes and caused an explosion,” he said. “My pregnant wife and I used the stairs to the 10th floor. There is no response from the maintenance team, landlord and real estate office.”

Mohammed Sulaiman, 27, a Jordanian road engineer, complained about the unavailability of a maintenance team all the time.

“The maintenance work is only from 8am till 3.30pm. What if a maintenance problem happens either at night or in holidays? What can we do? I do call the building manager, who most of the time does not answer,” said Mr Sulaiman, who lives in B4 Tower.

Ghaleb Jaber, general manager of Real Estate Investments Public Corporation, which manages Pearl Towers, said he has not received any complaints from tenants and he now intended to visit to compound.
