ABU DHABI // Ten-pin bowlers from around the region will be heading to the Khalifa International Bowling Centre at Zayed Sports City for its 13th annual Ramadan tournament.
The event will take place throughout holy month and finish on August 6.
Supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the National Drilling Company, the tournament has Dh145,000 in prize money.
Professional and social bowlers can compete in the men's, women's and youth divisions. Included this year is a graded division for amateurs.
"The UAE is a nation that embraces all forms of healthy competitions, and bowling is one of the many great avenues we can use to encourage the spirit and drive that comes with sport," said Barry Bremner, general manager of Zayed Sports City.
"We intend to continue this tradition and organise many more community and professional events in the future."
Last year 131 bowlers from 17 countries took part in the tournament. The bowling centre will expand its reach in the coming years, welcoming the World Tenpin Bowling Championships for men next year, and for women in 2015.
