Reem Island murder suspect trial to begin on March 23

ABU DHABI // The woman accused of killing American teacher Ibolya Ryan in a Reem Island mall will go on trial in the Federal Supreme Court later this month.

The trial of Alaa Bader Abdullah will begin on March 23, with Judge Falah Al Hajeri presiding, according to Al Ittihad, the sister newspaper of The National. As well as being accused of stabbing to death Ryan in public toilets in Boutik Mall, Abdullah is also accused of creating an explosive device, starting an internet account where she promoted terrorist ideals and spreading information that harmed the UAE.

She is also accused of donating funds to a terrorist organisation, knowing that the money would be used to fund terrorist acts.

Attorney General Salem Kubaish said Abdullah had confessed to her crimes, according to state news agency Wam.
