Recycling centre opens in Al Twar 2

DUBAI// Dubai Municipality has opened its 11th Smart Sustainable Oasis recycling centre.

The centre in Al Twar 2 is part of the environmental goals of the National Agenda 2021 and the National Index target of recycling 75 per cent of the waste produced in Dubai that usually goes into landfill.

There are plans to open centres in Satwa and Muhaisina.

The solar-powered Al Twar centre includes different coloured containers to collect paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, glass, used clothing, textile waste, rubber, leather, consumable electrical appliances, used phones, dry batteries and wood.

“It is expected that these centres will serve a large segment of the community. They will contribute to the conservation of natural resources, enhance the culture of sorting waste and raising the proportion of recycled materials and reduce the operational cost of waste disposal facilities and sites,” said Talib Julfar, the municipality’s assistant director general for Environmental and Public Health Services Sector.

Abdulmajeed Saifai, the municipality’s director of waste management, said:“We are committed to the goals and initiatives that establish a new phase of environmental excellence for Dubai.”

The centres are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
