RAS AL KHAIMAH // Four poultry farms have been denied operating licences for breaching a number of requirements.
Khalifa Mohammed Al Maktoum, Director of Public Health and Environment for RAK Municipality, said laws in the emirate stipulate that farms must be at least three kilometres away from residential areas. All four farms were located within this distance.
Al Ittihad, the sister newspaper of The National, reported that other breaches included lack of suitable safety gear, hiring unqualified people to run the farms and not meeting requirements for poultry vaccination and transportation.
Mr Al Maktoum said that some of the businesses did not have a system of veterinary check-ups or proper procedures for preventing and fighting diseases.
