Weather forecasters are warning sailors to stay away from the sea until Wednesday and for drivers to be wary of upcoming fog that could badly reduce visibility. After yesterday's rainfall, temperatures are expected to drop below 20°C in some places after reaching a maximum of 38° on Friday and dropping to a maximum of 25° yesterday. Strong winds are causing waves of around two and a half metres, warned a senior meteorologist at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology.
They could exceed and three metres in the next few days, he said, and coastal temperatures could drop as low as 18°. "There is a marine warning, and we advise not to ride the sea," he said. Light rainfall is expected in the northern emirates early in the week, he added, and fog by Wednesday. Yesterday, there were light showers in Abu Dhabi. On Friday, heavier rainfall and hail fell in the Hatta mountains in Dubai.
The Dubai Meteorological Services warned of windy, cloudy weather over the next few days, temperatures of around 20° and a chance of light rain. asafdar@thenational.ae
