An internationally acclaimed spiritual leader yesterday told the Dubai Peace Convention that religion was essential for peace.
Dr Zakir Naik said that just as machines need instruction manuals for smooth operation, mankind - the most complicated machine of all - needs the Quran.
More than 30,000 people attended Dr Naik's question-and-answer session at the event at the World Trade Centre, which began on Thursday.
One person asked: "If God is allowing so much suffering, does that mean it is His intention there should not be peace in the world?"
Dr Naik replied: "Sometimes when you fail to operate a new machine, it does not mean there is a part missing. It just means there is knowledge missing."
Other questions related to religious conversion, the prophets, the Bible and the Quran.
Speakers at the convention focussed on spreading peace and tolerance while deepening the spirit of humanitarian ventures.
Yesterday, Abdul Bary Yahya, from the US, lectured on The Greatest Men to Walk the Earth after the Prophet. Yusuf Estes, from the US, spoke on Peaceful Co-Existence: Myth or Reality, while Somalian Sheikh Saed Rageh discussed building a peaceful family.
Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais, imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, was meant to lead Friday prayers but did not show up, disappointing thousands.
