Princess Haya opens the Zayed bin Mohammed Family Gathering

DUBAI // Princess Haya of Jordan officially opened the Zayed bin Mohammed Family Gathering on Wednesday at Al Khawaneej.

The wife of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, hailed the efforts of those organising the event and the role that it plays in promoting internal tourism.

The Zayed bin Mohammed Family Gathering, organised by the Dubai Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities, will continue until mid-March, the state news agency Wam reported.

During a tour, Princess Haya sampled the sounds of Al Ayala Traditional Band Show and attended an Emirati wedding.

She also toured the museum, which preserves Emirati heritage and features a traditional house and maritime artefacts.

Mona Belhasa, chief executive and chairwoman of the Higher Organising Committee, lauded Princess Haya for her support, which she said contributed to the success of the event.

The Family Gathering hosts a variety of events and entertainment activities, such as cultural and awareness programmes, poetry sessions, educational courses, Islamic and public lectures, and contests.

The events mainly target children to enhance social and traditional values.

On her arrival at the Family Gathering, Princess Haya was received by Dr Hamad Al Shaibani, director general of the department, Miss Belhasa and other officials.
