Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, has directed Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority to launch Power Consumption Hour.
The initiative aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions and will encourage residents to switch off all their non-essential power-consuming devices between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.
The initiative is scheduled to start on July 1, the time period chosen for being “when demand for electricity increases and loads reach peak levels”, the state news agency Wam reported.
