Policeman ‘raped woman who thought he was a decent man’

DUBAI // A French woman thought a friendly policeman was a “decent man” until he raped her in her home, the Dubai Criminal Court was told on Wednesday.

The woman, 32, told the court that she arrived in the UAE in June last year and met the Emirati officer M A about four months later near a shopping mall, where he gave her his mobile number.

She said they talked for more than five hours that day and that M A, 31, was a decent man.

“He came to the villa where I have a room and gave me a present then picked me up a couple of hours later for lunch after which we both went to Mall of the Emirates and returned by 1.30am,” she said. “He asked if he can come into my room, I said no then he left,” she said.

The next day they met by chance at a petrol station, and she asked him to return to her home to pick up some belongings he had left behind. At the villa, she said the defendant followed her to her room despite telling him she was not allowed to receive male friends privately.

“He started kissing me. I kissed him back just to get through to him and convince him to leave but he didn’t,” she said. “Instead he insisted he wanted me and then pushed me to the wall after getting naked and raped me,

“He told me he was an Emirati and a military man so I could not do anything to him. I followed him to his car and there he pushed me out of the car as I was holding on to it, which caused me injury and bleeding,” she said.

M A, denied rape and assault and the next hearing will be on September 24.
