Policeman jailed over passport copy

DUBAI// A policeman who used a copy of his colleague's passport to buy a mobile phone SIM card, then sent insulting text messages to him from the phone, was sentenced to three months in prison yesterday.

MS, a 30-year-old Emirati, was convicted at the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance of using a copy of the victim's passport, which he stole from his file at their workplace.

The victim was identified in records as MM, 24.

MS did not attend his first court hearing last month. Records failed to explain the reason behind his actions.

MM told prosecutors that in July last year he began receiving text messages that included insults and inappropriate phrases about him and his family.

He did not reply to the messages, and the next day received a call from the same mobile number.

MM said the caller tried to disguise his voice, but he was able to recognise him, and told the caller that he knew his identity. MS allegedly told MM that he had used a copy of his passport to get the new number.

MM called Etisalat, which confirmed that a new mobile-phone number was issued under his name.

MS then called the Hatta police station and claimed he was insulted and threatened by MM. Police there accused MS of filing a bogus report, but no charges followed the accusation.

How it works

Each player begins with one of the great empires of history, from Julius Caesar's Rome to Ramses of Egypt, spread over Europe and the Middle East.

Round by round, the player expands their empire. The more land they have, the more money they can take from their coffers for each go.

As unruled land and soldiers are acquired, players must feed them. When a player comes up against land held by another army, they can choose to battle for supremacy.

A dice-based battle system is used and players can get the edge on their enemy with by deploying a renowned hero on the battlefield.

Players that lose battles and land will find their coffers dwindle and troops go hungry. The end goal? Global domination of course.
