Police officers honoured for foiling attempt to smuggle sheep

ABU DHABI // Two police officers have been honoured for uncovering an attempt to smuggle seven truckloads of 600 sheep across the border from Oman.

Assistant Sultan Al Saadi and Sergeant Ali Al Ketb, both employees at Al Ain CID, discovered the animals at the Al Khatm-Al Shekla border crossing.

The Department of Agriculture and Animal Breeding later conducted tests and found that the livestock had not been properly vaccinated, reported Al Ittihad, the sister newspaper of The National.

The officers received awards from Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Minister of Interior and Deputy Prime Minister, who commended the pair for their efforts in serving the community.

The Ministry of Environment and Water stressed the importance of all livestock meeting the strict health standards and requirements to make sure the animals are not contaminated with disease or pests.
