Police officers attacked while trying to arrest ‘hashish smugglers’



RAS AL KHAIMAH // Police officers were attacked with pepper spray as they attempted to arrest three men on suspicion of smuggling hashish.

The three Emiratis were arrested after officers from the anti-narcotics department at Ras Al Khaimah police were tipped off they were in possession of a large quantity of the drug, which they were looking to sell.

An undercover officer arranged to buy some of the drugs from three Emiratis. As police moved in they were attacked with pepper spray. After a struggle the men were eventually overpowered and arrested.

During interrogation they told officers the whereabouts of three other men, one Emirati and two Arabs, who were involved in smuggling the drugs. They were arrested in a neighbouring emirate, said Colonel Adnan Ali Al Zaabi, director of the anti-narcotics department at RAK Police.

The men’s case has been passed to the public prosecution.
