Yousef Al Otaiba, the UAE’s ambassador to the US, has said that the country offered the Taliban the opportunity to open an embassy in Abu Dhabi in 2013 but the deal fell through when the group’s leaders failed to meet a series of conditions including denouncing Al Qaeda.

The Abu Dhabi National Energy Company, Taqa, has recorded its second consecutive quarterly profit but it was slim at only Dh35 million.
