Police have seized more than 60 kilograms of heroin and arrested three men in a drugs operation code-named Operation Death Storm. Officers found about 40 bags of the narcotic hidden under the floor of a vehicle spare parts business in Abu Dhabi. Detectives said the raid was the result of a surveillance operation that began three months ago. In October, officers seized 12kg of heroin and crystal methamphetamine concealed under four tonnes of car parts in a cargo container in the city. “Their shop was raided and they [the arrested men] were caught red-handed,” said Col Taher Ghareeb Al Dhaheri, director of Abu Dhabi’s anti-narcotics department, in reference to the latest arrests. “They admitted the drugs were intended to be sold in the country.” Officers said the three suspects were aged between 24 and 45 and that some of the heroin had already been hidden in the door panels of old cars. One of the three men is understood be a managing partner of the shop, while the second is an investor. The third entered the UAE on a tourist visa. All three have been referred to public prosecutors while further investigations continue.
