One death, many crashes on Dubai’s roads this week

DUBAI // One person was killed and eight were injured in a number of traffic incidents in Dubai this week.

Col Jamal Al Bannai, acting director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said a farmer died after sustaining serious injuries in a run-over incident on Sunday.

“The accident took place at 9.30am, during which a lorry swerved from its correct lane and flipped over, hitting the man on Al Rabat Street towards Bur Dubai,” he said.

On the same day, at about 4.30pm, a vehicle flipped over after hitting a metal barrier, erupting into flames and seriously injuring the driver. Meanwhile, another person was seriously injured when his motorcycle crashed into a vehicle on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Sharjah.

On Monday, at about 3.30pm on the same road, a man sustained serious injuries in a run-over incident.

Col Al Bannai also said five people sustained moderate to serious injuries on Monday at about 6pm. “Four passengers and the driver of a bus were injured when their vehicle hit a cement barrier on Sheikh Zayed Road,” he said.

He also said that two lorries went up in flames on two separate roads in the emirate, resulting in heavy congestion. However, no injuries were reported.
