‘No evidence’ against manager accused of co-operating with Muslim Brotherhood

ABU DHABI // The lawyer for a media professional accused of co-operating with the Muslim Brotherhood says there is no evidence against his client.

K F A, 46, from Kuwait, is accused of giving publicity to the Brotherhood’s UAE arm, a banned organisation, by inviting members to appear on Al Bedaya TV channel, where he was a manager.

The Federal Supreme Court also heard that he collected finances from a Qatari charity so the Brotherhood could launch another channel, Hayatona.

This Lebanese channel had been backed by some defendants in the 2012 sedition trial, who were jailed for conspiring to overthrow the UAE Government.

K F A denied the allegations.

“All the procedures are void, as there was no legitimate proof. The case files did not include any investigations about the crime K F A allegedly committed,” said his lawyer, Abdulqader Al Haithami.

Mr Al Haithami also said the TV channel had no political content.

The verdict will be announced on September 21.

In another case, M T S, 39, an Emirati, was accused of joining the UAE Muslim Brotherhood. The court heard that he was in charge of the group’s student committee in Al Ain.

The defendant denied the accusation and the case was adjourned until October 5.
