The General Consulate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Dubai said electronic fingerprints are now compulsory for all UAE residents aged between 12 and 77 who wish to perform Haj and Umrah pilgrimage, reported Al Ittihad, The National's Arabic-language sister newspaper.
In a circular sent out to registered Haj and Umrah agencies, the consulate designated “Tasheel” centres at the Wafi Mall in Dubai to register individual fingerprints for a “symbolic” fee. The proper identification document required for this procedure is the passport.
Registered agencies have received a username and password as login information to book appointments electronically for consumers. The consulate said the system will reduce the waiting time at various entry points for pilgrims.
